Virgin games have come up with an interesting analysis. They anaylsed the luck factor of wagers from different regions of UK and tried to create a map of the UK’s ‘Luck Spots’.
Their study method is as follows: they randomly selected over 100,000,000 separate wagers, from over a period of past three years and matched the success of these players against the UK’s postcodes. Explaining the reason behind this interesting and fun exercise, Simon Burridge, CEO of Virgin Games mentioned that “Friday 13th falls three times in 2009, so we thought it would be interesting to see if whether some regions in the UK are luckier than others”, said. A very handy map for wagers eh?
The resultant data from Virgin Games shows a lot of variation between regions. For instance, St.Albans is the luckiest place in the whole of the UK while Sutton, Brighton and Luton follow second and third place respectively. The unluckiest spots in the UK were found to be Belfast, Perth and Newbury. Here is a glance at the top ten luckiest and unluckiest towns in UK:
Top 10 luckiest towns in the UK : St. Albans, Sutton Brighton, Luton ,City of Manchester , South West London (SW postcodes), Torquay , Bolton, Harrow , Stevenage
Top 10 unluckiest towns in the UK : Belfast, Perth,Newport , Salisbury , Motherwell , Darlington , Dudley, Aberdeen, Doncaster , Colchester.
So if you are at all superstitious – you know – about walking under ladders, broken mirrors, spilling salt, black cat crossing the road etc., or believe in such a thing as good or bad luck, then do head to St. Albans on Friday 13th!
